Ready for Baby

Well Baby Shipp can arrive now! We don't want the baby to come until the end of March but yesterday our car seat, stroller, extra base, diapers and diaper pale showed up. Robb and I had a date last night but he didn't say anything about there being a lot of at home. When we got home they were all stacked up in the kitchen. Robb thought it was really funny that he had tricked me.

So we now have 25 diapers. They are a mix of small perfect size diapers, which fit from 8 to 17lbs, and one size diapers that fit from 8 to 30lbs. 21 of our diapers our Fuzzi Bunz and then we have 3 Haute Traditional. We are really excited about trying cloth. As Robb said last night, we won't know the difference between cloth and disposable so we can do this.

Our car seat is here and now we will have to figure out how to attach our base into the car. We've been told that the fire department will help us properly install the base. So we will need to get that done soon! Robb put the stroller together and the car seat fits nicely into the stroller. We probably should get a baby doll and practice putting the baby in the car seat. There are so many buckles and snaps and what not. I'm sure we will become experts soon!

So it was an exciting evening and now we just need to get it all organized!

36 midwife appointment

yesterday Robb and I went to the midwife office for our 36 week appointment. My uterus is measuring fine and the baby's heart beat is great! My Strep group B came back negative so we won't have to deal with antibiotics the day of delivery. That makes me very happy!

The counter says we have 25 days until due date. We go back to the midwife next Tuesday. They said they will start checking for cervical dilation around 39 weeks. So.....we will see. My inside connection gave me the on-call schedule for the hospital during March. So my midwife Erin is working on the 27th and our 2nd favorite is working the 28th. So we are hoping for a delivery that weekend!

Target is BAD!

Robb and I have been having the most frustrating time with Target this week. I recommend anyone having a baby and registering not do it at Target. First off, many of Targets baby things are online only. That doesn't seem that bad at first but then you learn that Target online is terrible. You can't use multiple gift cards and the customer service on the phone is horrible. They sent us a 10% coupon and when I tried to use it the checkout service told me it had expired. The expiration on the coupon is 6/13/10. So then I had to call Target customer service and have them place the order for me but it took them 10 minutes to determine if my coupon was valid. Really!!! I just told lots of people to spend money at your store and you can't get your online shopping to work! Anyway after my 10 minute hold I was told that my coupon was fine and my order could be placed. So we have ordered our car seat but only after two trips to the store and two attempts of ordering it online that ended with me having a service rep do the actual ordering. I hope I'm not the only that thinks that is crazy and ridiculous. Target you are a big company get your act together and have an online store that works!

36 weeks!

Wow! Time is really rolling by. Only 4 weeks left. This past weekend really prepared us for this baby. All 3 baby showers were a lot of fun! Our nursery is now full of clothes, blankets, wipes and other baby accessories. We have so many wonderful people in our life and we are grateful they are so excited for us!

So really from here on out I will be saying the baby is ready now weighs more. The baby should be 6lbs. this week. Yesterday while we were resting the baby started to move. I showed Robb and he put his hand on my stomach. The baby gave him a little 1,2 kick. It was rather cool!

The amount of amniotic fluid should start to reduce and give the baby more room as it backs on the pounds. This could cause the movement inside me to feel different. It is so fun to see the times this little one is awake. During church is a favorite time for the baby to move.

We have a midwife appointment tomorrow. More updates later!

Shower #4

Sunday brought us our 4th and final shower. The Lynchburg Church of the Brethren which is our church home in this area gave us another lovely shower. We played games, opened presents and ate cake. We only have a few pictures from this one. These pictures are from a game where the participates held a plate on their heads and drew what they thought our baby would look like. Several were very good however others were interesting.

Shower #3

After our lovely shower at Amy's my home congregation (Antioch Church of the Brethren) gave us another shower. This one was a lot of fun but very different from the afternoon shower. We are very grateful for all the wonderful gifts we received. Our baby is going to have a huge collection of really soft blankets!

Shower #2

This was the weekend of the baby shower. We had 3 this weekend. We were suppose to have them earlier in the month but the snow changed the plans. So this weekend Robb and I have been opening presents galore!

Our first shower of the weekend was hosted by Amy Rhodes. It was a really fun intimate event. I'm calling this post shower #2 because my co-workers gave me shower #1. Our deepest thanks to Amy...we are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends!

Here are some pictures!

Midwife and massage

Today I had another midwife appointment. This was the last of my 2 week appointments and now I will be going every week until the baby is born. My next appointment is on Tuesday (not exactly a week away but it was the only day I could get the time I needed).

So this weeks appointment I saw Erin and discussed a lot of things. I was tested for Strep Group B. I'm hoping that the culture comes back negative. If I am positive for Strep I will have to have IV antibiotics during labor. However, Erin said I wouldn't have to be on a constant IV but that I would need the drugs every 4 hours. So I wouldn't be limited in my mobility or the ability to get in a water bath. But lets hope that we don't even have to deal with that.

The last couple of days I have been retaining more fluids. I was rather puffy for my appointment today. Erin wants me to spend more time resting in the evening, drinking more water, and reducing my salt in take even more. She did say that water retention at this stage in pregnancy is normal.

My uterus is measuring the correct size and Erin estimates that the baby is 5 1/2lbs. So we are looking at a 7 1/2lb baby at delivery.

After my midwife appointment I had my 3rd prenatal massage. I was so glad to have the massage today. Being puffy, having Jean massage my legs and arms helped get the fluids moving and I think my swelling is going down. I have one more appointment on March 2nd. These have been wonderful appointments!

So....we are in the home stretch and I am feeling very pregnant. I still have a month until due date so I'm sure it will get harder but for today being pregnant is hard. I'm sure tomorrow will be better.

We have our baby showers this weekend and I'm looking forward to that. Pictures and updates later!

35 weeks!

Hello 35 weeks! We are 3 weeks away from full term and 5 weeks from due date. So our time in pregnancy land is soon coming to an end. This week the baby should be 5 1/2lbs and is fully developed. The kidneys and liver are working. From here on out the baby will just be putting on weight. We can expect 1/2lb weight gain per week until due date. So....are we looking at a 9lb baby? Hope not!

This past weekend Amy and I spent Saturday getting pampered and enjoying time together. We realize that our time alone will be much less after baby Shipp arrives. We each had aromatherapy pedicures. They were fabulous! Then we enjoyed a relaxed lunch at a local cafe. It was nice to just sit and talk for as long as we wanted.

It has been snowing also most every day/week around here. We are hoping that the snow is light or non-existent this weekend. Our baby showers from the first weekend of Feb have been rescheduled for this Saturday. We are having 2 showers on Saturday and one on Sunday. Robb and I are very excited about these celebrations!

Sleeping is becoming interesting. I am going to be earlier and earlier but that is because my body is waking me up around 3 every night. I guess my hips are readying me for a baby that wants to be up early in the morning.

We have a midwife appointment on Thursday and after that I have another massage. It will be exciting to see what our midwife appointments will bring as we move into the every week meetings!

School Day

So this post really has nothing to do with the baby or being pregnant. Today is the first day in the month of February that Robb has gone to school. They were 2 hours late this morning but they did go. It is amazing to think that the last time Robb went to work was January 29th. I asked him if he remembered what he was teaching. So I hope his first day back from his week and a half break goes well!

For a little baby news....all the people that I know that have been pregnant at the same time are starting to have their baby's. It is rather amazing to see pictures on Facebook of these red and wrinkled little people. Good luck to all pregnant friends as they approach their due dates! Ours is under 40 days now!

Moving up a Storm

Yesterday evening the baby was very active. From the time I got home to the time I went to bed this baby was moving and kicking and squirming. While Robb and I were watching TV I would stare at my belly and just watch it move. I would get Robb's attention and eventually he saw my belly move too. I don't see feet or anything like that yet but I do see this wave.

Since I've been pregnant I've heard tons of stories about pregnant belly's moving or seeing feet and elbows. I've decided that since this is a major part of the end of pregnancy that is what sticks in most peoples minds. It is now fun to really understand what these stories are about. However, I'm glad I have recorded my whole pregnancy and will remember how I felt at 2 months and not just the end!

34 weeks

34 weeks and only 41 days until due date! Wow.....41 days still seems like a lot of time but then again thinking back to July 41 days is a drop in the bucket. Robb and I survived the massive blizzard from the past weekend. The road crews did a great job plowing and most all of the road are perfectly fine now. However, Robb did have to stay home again today because school was canceled. This is the 6th school day in a row he hasn't gone. They are calling for another storm or something tomorrow so he probably won't be going in tomorrow either.

So every book and internet site says the baby should be in the 5lb range and adding fat. The skin is smoothing out and if the baby was born now it would have a great chance of not having any major complications. We want little Shipp to stay in there for another 6 weeks but it is comforting to know that we are in the area of safe delivery if preterm labor started.

Lately I have been having a lot of sleepless night. Well not sleepless but I seem to be getting up 2 or 3 times a night and then I toss and turn when I am actually in bed. I just can't seem to stay comfortable. When I lay down I feel great but then not too long my hips or legs start hurting and I have to roll over. I really want to sleep on my back but that hurts even more than my sides and I'm not suppose to sleep on my back. I had a dream the other day about after the baby was born and getting to sleep on my back again. While I know sleeping will be interrupted a lot once the baby is born hopefully when I do get to sleep my body won't be hurting anymore.

No appointments or meetings or classes this week. So we are just hanging out in week 34!

Virginia Baptist Hospital

Last night Robb and I took a tour of the Birth Center at Virginia Baptist Hospital. It was a short and sweet look at the place where we will get to meet our new baby. The tour congregated at the entrance where we would park and come in when we are actually in labor. From there we took the elevators to the 4th floor to the Labor & Delivery Unit. I believe there are 16 Labor, Delivery and Recovery rooms in this unit. Each of the rooms is spacious with a jetted tub, tv, couch and other amenities that might be needed for the birth. Robb decided the room we looked at smelled funny so we should plan to bring some scented somethings to make things smell better while we are in labor.

About 2 hours after the baby is born all of us will be transferred to the Mother/Baby Unit. There are about 30 Mother/Baby rooms. The room size varies but all have a bed, couch, sleeping chair, tv and bathroom. We will stay in the Mother/Baby until for 2 nights. One of the nice things about this unit is they have room service. The morning after the baby is born the first official portrait will be taken at the hospital.

The birth center has a family waiting room with a gift shop. I also believe there is a snack bar/coffee center for the waiting room as well.

March 21st is getting closer and closer. I am really glad we toured this facility to see where our child will be born and to get comfortable with arriving. We believe it should take us about 35 minutes from our house to the hospital. However, Robb thinks if we are in a hurry we can shave a little time off of that.

Appointments and massages and snow

This week has been quite full. It snowed on Friday and Saturday which canceled our weekend plans. However, that means it has also canceled school for Robb for the entire week thus far. I hope he is enjoying his spring break!

Monday afternoon we had another appointment and met the 4th midwife. I feel like I'm going to this clinic all the time now. I'm sure it will feel even more like that when I have to go every week (which is starting at the end of Feb). Tammy is the 4th midwife and we like her. We definitely have our favorites out of the 4 midwives but feel that which ever one we get the day of the birth will be fine. We are just stressing natural and they all seem to think that is great. So hopefully...everything will work out.

Yesterday I had my second of 4 prenatal massages. They are quite lovely. I was a little worried the massage would be canceled due to the fact that it was snowing and icing yesterday afternoon into the evening. But I still got my massage. I have another massage on the 18th!

This afternoon Robb and I are going to tour the birth center at Virginia Baptist Hospital. We want to get prepared for the arrival of this baby by knowing where to go, what to expect, and just feeling comfortable in general. The birth center has open tours the 1st and 3rd Wednesday's of every month. It will be nice to see where our child is going to be born!

33 Weeks!

YAY we are at 33 weeks! Week 32 was rather difficult on me. I was having a lot of body ache issues and was generally getting tired of being pregnant. However, this past weekend we had a beautiful snowfall that changed all of our weekend plans. So Robb and I stayed at home and really didn't do a whole lot. That is exactly what I needed. I feel rested and rejuvenated! Saturday we did nothing: slept in, watched tv, and took a bath. Sunday I did clean parts of the house, do the laundry and work more in the baby's room. I want to get the nursery in order this week because....this weekend we have 2 baby showers back home! That is right I said 2!

Baby shower #1 is being hosted by my best friend Amy Rhodes! She has been so kind and generous in planning this shower! I can't wait for the fun (and the invitations were just beautiful). Baby shower #2 is being hosted by my home congregation, Antioch Church of the Brethren. The second shower is a co-ed pot luck lunch. It is really nice that my home church wanted to celebrate this exciting time with Robb and me. So we will have lots of pictures and info to report on this coming weekend!

As for me....I've noticed that my hands and arms are falling asleep a lot easier now. I don't know what is really going on there but I wake up many nights and can't feel one or more of my arms. It makes getting my pregnant self out of bed that much harder.

We have a midwife appointment this afternoon and tomorrow I have my second prenatal massage. So this week is getting full but should be fun!
