New adventures

Jenna and I have had a busy week. On Monday we returned to our nursing consultant for a flow-up. Jenna is doing better with nursing but isn't yet a pro. So I have been weighing her every morning to make sure she is gaining weight. Also some times I weigh her before she nurses and then again after to see how much she ate. Usually she wants to eat 3oz but when she nurses she usually only gets 1.5oz. So she has been eating almost every hour during the day. Once she gets better at nursing hopefully she will be able to get full from nursing.

On Tuesday we traveled to my parents house. We spent the day hanging out with Oma and Opa. Jenna has now been to the farm twice but yet to actually get down to the barn. We are doing back soon and we will make it down to see some baby calves and lambs. But also while we were there my grandparents came down to visit.

Thursday we went for my 6 week postpartum check up and everything is going well. I still love my midwife and I am a little sad that I won't be seeing her on a regular basis.

Still living the dream....

Jenna is 5 weeks old and it seems like time is flying. I'm taking my total 12 weeks of FMLA. So that means I will be returning to work on June 14th. However if I was only taking the 6 weeks that is recommended I would be going back to work on Thursday. I can't imagine leaving her yet. I don't feel like we know each other well enough yet to be parting. I'm really glad that she came in March so that I could take 12 weeks off with her and then Robb will have a month with her. She won't be doing any kind of daycare til August. As Robb said today I probably won't be ready to leave her in June but we will cross that bridge when we get there!

Enjoy the pictures!

A small victory

Jenna is now breastfeeding! We have been battling for the last month with breastfeeding. She and I didn't communicate well in the hospital. We got a lot of conflicting advice from the nursing staff. Jenna was just not interesting in feeding but she was hungry. Also while we were in the hospital she had jaundice issues. So I started pumping because we really needed her to be eating. When we got home I was feeding her with a bottle but kept trying to breastfeed. I have been trying for the last month but not having much success. This past week I was about to give up. Friday Jenna and I attended a Le Leche breastfeeding support group. One of the leaders gave me some tips on my technique. It worked because since that time Jenna has been feeding. Its like is just clicked. She had a bottle around midnight last night and then she has been breastfeeding since. She seems happy and content. So I think she is getting what she needs. We will see how this new development goes!

Home alone

Today is the first day that Jenna and I are home alone together. She is almost a month old but since she was born we have either had daddy or one of the grandmothers here to help. It has been a nice transition into child care having help the first 3 weeks. She and I are doing well this morning. Hopefully we can get into a nice routine and establish something regular for the next 9 weeks.

This morning she isn't wanting to nap for very long. I've put her to sleep twice and she has only slept for about 30 minutes. She was trying to wake up just now but I think she is putting herself back to sleep. I'm hoping she will take a morning and afternoon nap. During the morning I can get a few things done and then in the afternoon I can nap with her. We will see if this little girl will let me do all that!

Daddy got a haircut

Today Robb decided it was time to cut his beautiful hair! He decided to donate it to Locks of Love. He needed at least 10inches but he had more than that. So now Jenna has some pictures with her dad the long haired rebel and also now a picture with her short haired father!

I Love my Daddy!

This week Robb is on Spring Break. It has been really nice spending time together and taking care of Jenna. He is a great daddy and we are both getting to know our daughter. Next week should be interesting. Robb goes back to work without any regular break until the end of the school year. Plus it will be the first time that Jenna and I are home alone full time. Up until now we have had others coming in or here. I'm sure she and I will do fine. Once Robb is back in school I think we will get on a more regular routine. However this little girl is changing all the time. When I think I know how much she is going to eat or what she is going to like she changes on me. I guess that is what parenting is all about!

Time to get some rest because Jenna is sleeping now!

Our cute little heifer calf

Jenna got this really cute cow onesie. This is what she wore to her doctors appointment yesterday. I am enjoying dressing her up!
